Our school garden is utilized by students in grades K-8. The garden is used to integrate academic learning with real life practices. Hands-on learning is important to our school and our garden provides the perfect learning space for this to take place.
We are at a public, K-8, large city school with many needs.
Students live in all zip codes of our city and come from diverse backgrounds. Our students love coming to school and thoroughly enjoy sharing their learning and creating new ideas. We use an integrated arts curriculum with all students. Our art teachers collaborate with classroom teachers in bringing meaningful content to our students. We all work together to engage our students to see the whole picture.
My Project
Our K-8's existing garden is in need of a spring revitalization! My students need soil, tools and additional materials to maintain our outdoor learning environment. Students, teachers, and community members look forward to working side by side to regularly maintain this outdoor learning space at the school.
The garden's purpose is to create a living learning lab for the students of our K-8.
Students from all backgrounds are provided an opportunity to learn and grow in this outdoor learning space. Students work at and across grade levels to support academic and community development. The garden provides students and staff the opportunity to integrate hands-on, real-life experiences with curricular learning. This allows students to grow food, create habitat, and learn about the natural world surrounding them. Produce is used for classroom and community consumption.
