Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
All students are special and deserve a good education!
The unique group of students that I am teaching are of great need, in high poverty but eager to learn.
They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city. They are funny, sweet and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates. They need extra attention and nurturing.
My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country.
My Project
My students do not have many opportunities to engage with nature. I would like to exposed them on how plants grow. We have read many books to help them understand this process but what better way to learn about this than to do it hands-on. The seeds, gardens tools and soil will give us a boost in the right direction.
Learning about growing plants and eating healthy is a great investment to a brighter future for everyone.
Our children will not only learn how plants grow, but they will learn how to take care of these plants and what it takes to keep them alive. Science is all about watching things happen before you. After giving them the right tools and knowledge, our children will plant, nurture, and prune their garden all by themselves. They will also enjoy the delicious greens.
