Growing Green in 5th Grade

Help me give my students the hands-on experience with the life cycle of plants and the importance they have in our lives.

My Project

Having this hands-on opportunity in my science classroom will create active learning and real life experiences for my students. Today's 5th grade students have spent a significant amount of their learning time on virtual platforms, due to the pandemic, starting in second grade. Bringing in the materials to allow them to be hands on with planting, growing, and nurturing plants will be a wonderful opportunity to them to get their hands dirty and their minds turning as they experience the life cycle and parts of plants first hand. Not only will they gain science knowledge, but they will develop their social skills as they work together to grow and raise plants. Life skills will also be acquired as the students learn about how to grow plants from seeds and take home plants that they can continue to care for.
