This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a curious and eager to learn group of first graders in a Bronx New York public school. They are eager to come to school each day, and bring enthusiasm and joy with them. For many of them, school is an oasis where they are nurtured to learn and grow.
They are emerging readers who are excited about learning to read and will be able to go far with the right support and resources.
My goal is to be a break in the cycle of poverty that affects so many families of my school. With a strong educational foundation I know my students can go far.
My Project
As my class of hardworking first graders grow their reading skills,they need books that they are interested in reading to help them grow their love of books! First graders are emerging readers that need to see just how fun reading can be!
With so many students coming in at the first levels of reading, we have ran out of books and students are having to share.
It is hard for students to grow their reading when they don't have their own books to study and practice with! I have requested books that are at their just right reading level as well as some really engaging read aloud books to show them just how fun reading can be.
