My Project

Now, more than ever, young children need to learn social emotional skills, communication skills, and compassion for others. A new, larger classroom rug will enable my first graders to have these learning experiences together.

Children will gather on the rug for our Monday Morning Community Circle time and so much more.

My first graders will be able to share anything, good or bad, that they experienced over the weekend. This helps them with language development, listening skills, and learning to have empathy for others.

Children will have a comfortable space to listen to stories, participate in role playing, and have shared experiences through our Social Emotional Lessons.

Students will find a safe space to turn and talk to partners about stories, questions, ideas, and discoveries made during Reading, Science, Math, Social Studies, and Language Arts. Children will also use the carpet space for building, putting puzzles together, and playing games, which all enhance my goal of building a true classroom community where we work, play, and grow together.

My school is a Title One school where everyone receives free breakfast and lunch. We are a hub for students who are learning English as a second language. My classroom is also an inclusion room where we welcome students with special needs. A new classroom rug would enable me to meet the needs of the diverse children in my care.
