Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The hydroponic equipment will provide students with hands-on experience in innovative gardening techniques that go beyond traditional methods. By engaging with hydroponics, students will explore concepts of water conservation, plant biology, and environmental science in an interactive, practical way.

Our goal is to introduce students to sustainable agricultural practices, specifically hydroponics, and to foster an appreciation for how technology can improve food production.

We aim to build a working hydroponic garden within the school that will give students the opportunity to design, maintain, and analyze plant growth in a soil-free environment. Ultimately, we hope to inspire students to pursue careers in science, agriculture, and environmental studies while instilling a sense of responsibility toward environmental sustainability. Our students come from a rural community surrounded by vast agricultural fields, where many of their parents work in farming. They are naturally curious, creative, and eager to explore new ideas, especially those connected to their everyday lives. While they are familiar with traditional soil-based farming, we want to expand their knowledge by introducing them to hydroponics, a modern, sustainable way of growing plants without soil.

By combining traditional gardening with innovative hydroponic techniques, students will gain a deeper understanding of plant growth and agricultural technology. This hands-on experience will not only spark their curiosity but also empower them with valuable skills for the future, encouraging them to think critically about food production and sustainability in their own community.
