My Project

I am seeking funding to finance a 2x4 AC Infinity Grow Tent system that will be used as part of an Energy Production Unit in a high school physics class where students will learn about produce sustainability and financial literacy through selling our plants and some produce to the community as a fundraiser.

We are going to use the grow tent to grow plants which we intend on selling to the community as a fundraiser for our high school, helping to teach financial literacy.

Oftentimes, a common complaint from graduates is that high school doesn't prepare you for the "real world." I'm attempting to teach plant and produce sustainability in physics clas, where we will use our Advanced Grow System to propagate fruits, vegetables, and native plants into our community garden. The community garden will provide students with an opportunity to fundraise for things like the annual band trip to Florida and the spring baseball trip to Arizona.

We will give our students a hands-on experience growing the crops, but then we will give them a real world lesson on financial literacy as they begin to think like business owners, fundraising for different organizations and clubs in school. This is a way for us to teach financial literacy skills as we think about the Grow Tent as a small "business" and the complications and expenses it will take to keep it running in the future.

Students will gain skills by growing and harvesting their own food; they will also gain financial skills as they advertise and sell their produce and plants to the community, to reinvest in the community garden. Students glow with excitement as they pick vegetables from our community garden. A classroom grow tent will allow us to bring that excitement inside, year-round.
