Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

The students have created a Garden Club which meets after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The students have stressed concern about wondering how plants grow and want to see what it is like to sustain plants in a controlled enviornment. Most of the students have never tried to grow anything and they are really excited. In addition, this would help our students understand how plants grow, filling in scientific knowledge that they can see instead of reading about in a textbook. These students love learning by doing, and this would be a great example of real world science.

This project will help our students in many ways. For one, this will help them learn about how plants grow, including the root system and hydroponics. The students have been learning about GMO's and the chemicals that are used to preserve food and want to grow their own food to eat naturally. The students would be working together to expand their knowledge and build a community within their already existing school community. The students would be able to create a love of nature and understand the fragility of life. We hope this will help create a loving and caring student who will take care of their environment!

In Their Own Words

We are trying to create and sustain plants. We want to see how plants grow and the process of their growth. We want to use the scientific method to figure out the best way to grow plants inside of our school because we do not have a lot of areas where we live to plant outside.

We would be the founding members of our school garden club. We are making the room our own and can branch out and make sure every classroom in our school can have a plant in it to help clean the air and create a better environment. We want to inspire other students to start gardens at home.

This project is important because we live in the concrete jungle. There is hardly any green or planting space. We have learned how we need plants to coexist in this world so we want to do our part. This will help us have healthy hobbies and try to been some color to our neighborhood.
