My Students

My group of students have been together since Kindergarten. They are part of the Dual Language program at my school. The majority of the students are learning Spanish or English as a second language but I have some that are learning their third language.

I have had classroom visitors comment on how the students treat each other like family and are surprised at how they treat each other with so much patience.

Overly acting out new vocabulary words is a way that I have found to be the most effective way in teaching my students. At every lesson, they eagerly hope to be my next helper in making the lesson come alive.

My Project

I believe that as teachers, we are the perfect role models for our students in continually wanting to grow our knowledge. In order to stay committed to my philosophy, I must grow, learn and transform my thinking and teaching style. I will be using the knowledge I gain from the Math conference to better reach my students academically. Some of the offered sessions at the CAMT conference will help me build mathematical literacy in the classroom, reach my students more effectively in small group instruction and incorporate mathematical discourse in the classroom. The sessions that I will be attending will benefit my students by helping them grow mathematically and helping them see the world through the eyes of a mathematician.
