My Project

At our school, we have created a student-driven pleasure reading book club, Reading Rampants, that fosters literacy in a low-stakes environment. By offering this opportunity, we provide students with a space to explore reading for enjoyment, outside the pressures of academics. Our goal is to strengthen the bond among students and encourage them to continue reading during school breaks or even after graduation.

We have begun cultivating a small collection of houseplants to make our media center a more engaging and welcoming space for all students.

One initiative we are excited about is our "book plants" project. Through this project, we aim to provide students with plant cuttings from our library collection to propagate, as well as a pot to decorate with memorable moments from book club meetings or their favorite books.

We believe this project will offer students a tangible product they can take home, which will serve as a lasting reminder of their time in the book club. In an age where academic pressures often overshadow the joy of reading, this initiative seeks to bring back the simple pleasure of reading for fun.

The students benefiting from this project come from a wide range of abilities, ages, and home languages, making the book club a truly inclusive and welcoming space for all.
