My Project

We are ready to take our interest in technology and engineering to the next level and align the utilization of interactive apps in conjunction with the physical gears that are currently applied in the lessons.

For the past two years, my students have increasingly been engaged in the use of various interlocking gear shaped pieces.

We have used Gear Builders , Real Working Gears! Class set (Lakeshore), and Gears, Gears, Gears Deluxe Building Set (Learning Resources).

Several of my students have participated in the Robotics Club in our school Fun Friday Clubs. The task captured their attention and learning more about the mechanism and coding would be appealing to them. The students discovered the power of coding as we used technology to code the path of the robot.

The plan is to open the world of technology with apps on this iPad. The apps that we will be using are focused on gear technology and entry-level coding. The apps that will be downloaded will either be funded via a separate source of finance or are free to download. The apps include Crazy Gears, in which the students will be able to explore and solve the puzzles in each of the levels, with increasing complexity. Additional apps include Tynker Junior, Scratch Junior, and Hopscotch. We also would like to use the Osmo Coding Starter Kit.

Coding is essential knowledge in understanding and using equipment of the digital age. It promotes comprehension of technology in the students’ environment. It contains answers to the age-old question of how things work. Using this iPad, in conjunction with appropriate STEM related apps, will enhance the students’ education and it will prepare our students for the future.
