My students need to learn how they learn so I am requesting models and a poster of the brain for reference and journal materials to record their thinking.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students' goal for each lesson is to learn HOW they learn. Help my 4th graders actually "see" the parts of the brain we discuss. They need new "thinking journals" to record their amazing thoughts and insights. Be an integral partner in building life long learners.
My students are amazing.
I could speak to the socioeconomic status or race or enrollment in special programs in depth but the most important thing to know about them is that they are amazing learners. Teaching kids how they learn and challenging them to heights others see as impossible, is the best way to observe what kind of students they are. My students rise and surpass the challenges I set and are moving towards setting their own challenges.
Our school is a title I school with 97.2% on free/reduced lunch. 92.7% are minority. Blah Blah Blah.... You have heard all of this before. This is not the "feel sorry for us" section so I choose to focus on that top paragraph. The top paragraph describes my students. I am more than happy to provide any additional demographic information if you need.
My Project
This is the first part of a long term cognitive psych/neuro-scientific based instructional project (approximately two years). This section is the preparation phase and consists of familiarizing the students with their brain functions and journal their "thoughts". We not only discuss and write on the brain topics but extend to the reading/writing and math content we explore as application.
We have already started this process but found that it is hard for my students to visualize the parts of the brain we discuss. The models will help and having the poster up will serve as a reference point even when I am not leading a discussion. We started with homemade "journals" made of construction paper and notebook paper stapled together. I think it is time to move them to more professional looking journals. The colored composition notebooks will serve as a good start.
The second phase of the project (which will be analyzed in a research paper) is to come... Join us on this journey!
Not many people find their mission in life.
I am a lucky one. I am here on this earth to teach students HOW to learn. I like to think that my students are learning how to fish and not being given fish after fish. They will get better and better long after they leave our wonderful little classroom (research to support this is plentiful). I see this two year project as the gift that keeps on giving. They will be more efficient life long learners. Changing the world one student at a time :)
