My Students

Have you ever imagined wanting to have your own garden and experience the beauty of growing flowers and vegetables to enjoy but not be able to because you live in an apartment building where only small spaces and concrete surround you. Unfortunately, this is the reality for most of my students.

I teach special education to 6th and 7th grade students.

All of my students are amazing individuals who, despite their learning disabilities, are creative and enthusiastic learners. They love science and many have always wanted grow a garden, however, due to housing conditions and lack of family finances, they are unable to have their own gardens. Here in California, we have the capacity of growing flowers and plants year round due to our beautiful weather. Therefore, my students would like to start their garden indoors and continue it outdoors throughout the rest of the school year. We will soon begin our unit on plants and animals and it would be a great learning experience to have a hands own component to learn about plants. This is of course one of the best way my students learn. In addition, it would be amazing to conclude our unit with our own classroom garden.

My Project

I believe that every student should experience the beauty of nature and how just by the simple action of growing flowers and vegetables they learn how amazing our world is and how we must work to preserve it. My students will learn through their hands on experience and classroom activities how to garden, the structure of plants, how important they are to our environment, and of course how plants help our recycling process. We will plant flowers and vegetables and share our garden with our school for everyone to enjoy. We are privileged to have three large raised bed containers where we will grow our bounty. My students are excited and can't wait to get started. Would you please help us in making this experience one to remember?

I believe that students need to experience activities outside the classroom in order to make learning more concrete.

My students with learning needs, need this experience even more. Therefore, providing them with the tools they need will enhance their learning process and give them a unique and unforgettable experience. As a teacher my job is to provide those learning moments that can change their entire education perspective in order to make learning engaging, exciting and fun.
