This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creative and enthusiastic young people who love to explore the world around them. As we work to rebuild their identities as students in the classroom post-remote learning, I have found that my students respond most earnestly to projects where their creativity is invited to take the lead.

The green screen backdrops and microphones will be an important tool for students to truly expand their imaginations across content areas.

We will use the green screens to enrich and layer their learning experiences as we aim for truly interdisciplinary projects in math and science. For example, students will explore engineering principles by building a paper sculpture. This sculpture can then be the setting for a creative story that they will act out and, using the green screens, place themselves in. In this sense, students will have the opportunity to explore STEAM principles to write themselves into their own stories. This example of one of the projects we will work on is only the starting invitation for students.

My students are natural storytellers, but having had the experience of crafting and bringing to life their stories will serve as a catalyst for their creativity across projects and disciplines.
