I teach science at an elementary school in NY. More than 70% of our approximately 600 students qualify for free lunch, and the school continues to receive Title I funding. It is a diverse school with a student body that is 55% Hispanic, 28% White, 11% African-American, and 6% Asian.

I will be teaching a unit on energy to my third graders. None of the texts I have mention renewable forms of energy; they're very outdated. Because it is important to me that my lessons are relevant, cutting-edge and hands-on, I need some up-to-date resources to teach my students about alternative sources of energy.

A renewable energy kit would allow students to investigate solar, wind and water power. The kit has 4 interchangeable monitors to track and measure energy. In addition, my students would benefit from the "energy revolution library," which contains books on the future possibilities in energy. I want my students to see that there are many ways we can become more sustainable, and they could be the future scientists and engineers that develop these energy forms.

Your support will mean that my third graders learn about energy in a holistic way--what we've used before, now and what we're developing for the future. Exposing my students to ways we can strive to be more sustainable and what scientists are working on today is my role as an educator.
