This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This coming school year, I will have the pleasure to be the math cluster teacher for grades K, 1 and 2 in my school. I work in a Title 1 school. My students are amazing, motivated learners that deserve the best quality education that money and training can provide. My school is located in one of the poorest communities in the Bronx. But I am lucky to be part of a school team that gives our students 100% every day. I envision a classroom where students share ideas and use reasoning to develop judgments and conjectures. These materials will help me do that!

My Project

Wipe boards are great tools for math. When students are challenged with a math question and are presented with a board to show their thinking, they have the opportunity to think, solve and show before sharing with classmates and the teacher.

Dry-erase boards empower students to focus on their own ways to solve a given math question.

When students are expected to show their math thinking, they become more critical and reflective of their strategies. They become their own teacher by choosing strategies that might yell more appropriate and logical results. When students show their thinking on dry erase boards, teachers can do a quick assessment and provide students with prompt constructive questions or suggestions.
