This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a large K - 8 urban school in a tough neighborhood. Poverty, violence, and sometimes hunger are challenges my kids experience every day. For many, school is the safe zone to learn and play.

Help me to start my students ' school year in the right way!

My Project

Every day I have students who can't start work because they need a pencil, eraser, or writing paper. We have a supply list that parents do try to fill out at the start of school year, however not everyone can supply them. Also, we try to provide some of the things ourselves to lessen their burden. This way we can start our learning activities immediately, and not have to wait 2-3 weeks for all of the supplies to be brought in.

One big challenge is providing school supplies for every student that can last the whole year.

Your help with notebooks, pencils, construction papers, all will allow us to start off the year right!
