Great Minds Don’t Think Alike!

My students need to read Fish in a Tree because this book offers hope to students that struggle academically and shows that a disability does not mean you're stupid.

My Students

My students are so full of life. They come to class everyday with smiles on their faces and ready to learn. They are always excited about what will be in store for them each day. I try to keep learning fun!

I say to my class, "Do your best..." they reply, "..and forget the rest!" I want them to know that I believe in them, and I want them to believe in themselves.

Despite some of the hardships, my students experience on a daily basis; they are eager to come to school and give it all they got so that one day, they can be successful one day!

My Project

My students need Fish in a Tree because it’s engaging literature that will help them enhance the way they monitor their comprehension. It will also allow them to see that all great minds don’t think (or learn) alike!

My 5th grade students are your typical fifth graders.

They are social, active, and fun to be around. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. I have students who are below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level. I am constantly telling my students that we don’t all learn the same, mistakes are proof that you are trying, and we all learn in different and unique ways. My students are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it, yet.

Fish in a Tree, by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, is a book that I would love to use this year. This book will set the tone for the school year for my 5th graders. Fish in a Tree touches on themes such as friendship, acceptance, love, tolerance, bullying, and family. It touches on what it means to be "different!” Explains, in detail, what dyslexia is, what it is like to have it, and how this learning disability doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It also shows how kids learn differently than others. These topics will surely engage my readers, aiding in their comprehension. It will also make for great conversations!

Donations to this project will greatly improve my classroom dynamic.

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by the ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that its stupid.” -Albert Einstein
