Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is the most important year for my PreK students. My students are eager preschoolers from the Washington Heights area in the city of New York. These children have had limited social interaction in the last six months. For many, this is their first time experiencing detachment from home and being part of a school setting.

As their teacher, I want to give my students the maximum experience in hands-on learning and opportunities to learn about things that apply to their lives.

My Project

The Pre-K class that I will be teaching is a new class that has been added to our building. Since we still need to practice mindful distancing, I don't have enough materials to provide each student with their own space to play due to the budget cuts the Dept of Education has been experiencing.

Although these may look like toys for the students, these manipulative will build my students' imagination and creativity through play.

Using these manipulatives, students practice decision making, develop concentration and perseverance skills while learning about cause and effect, and how to solve problems. They explore patterns through sequencing, colors, ordering, and comparison.
