My 5th-grade students are from a high-poverty community. Our large school celebrates the various cultures of all of the children, embracing the differences.
However, it has been difficult to keep students enthused about education when they are dealing with the stress of getting sick and the division in family beliefs about masks, vaccination, and social distancing.
My goal with this project is to provide several ways to inspire students in my writing class. I want them to be excited about coming to school and highly engaged in learning the writing skills that are required to function well in life.
My Project
The materials for this project will help my students to be engaged in learning the skills needed to master writing and grammar. Many of these students have missed out on a year or more of school and are in need of a boost.
I've chosen a highly recommended writing traits lesson kit, an art project that will stimulate creative writing, engaging games, and a book-making kit.
The combination of these supplies will increase student engagement throughout the year. Some of these supplies can also be used from home for students who have been quarantined.
