My Students

My students come from low-income and working class families and are part of a long tradition of hard work and learning. Most of them have part time jobs after school, and what they do have, has not come easy.

Our school is the oldest and most crowded high school in the city.

Most of them really need support, so I give them all I've got. They are willing to work hard for me in spite of my corny science jokes because they know that I believe in them!

My Project

My high school science students have challenged themselves to grow a chicken embryo in a cup like the viral video online. I have to admit that this has really "beaked" my interest. They are not "yolking" around and are willing to work around the "cluck" to make this work. We need a small incubator and some other materials that we have read about and researched for this project.

This will add a real-world experience to our Biology class in the areas of cell growth and embryology.

We have several classes that are hoping to "eggs-periment" with this equipment which will be in use for many years. If they are successful, they will be the wind beneath my chicken wings!

They promise to be ethical so they don't get "egg-spelled" from school, and we already have a plan in place for a forever home for any chickens produced in our lab. And just like a chicken that crosses a road, if you help us reach this dream it will be "poultry in motion"!
