My Students

I’ve been blessed with a teaching career surrounded by middle school students. Their energy and puppy-like awkwardness make for an exciting and interesting day that is always different from the next. In a sixth through eighth-grade middle school, my seventh-grade students are at a unique point in their academic careers. They have a year of experience, yet another year still full of wonder, giving them the perfect mixture of confidence and curiosity.

As a seventh-grade ELA teacher, my classroom is the melting pot of readers and writers.

My students come from different learning backgrounds and have many unique learning styles; however, they are all seeking adventure and looking to escape the ordinary day-to-day. My students are on the hunt for awesome ideas, friends, role models, and inspiration to make life and school fascinating.

My Project

My students are so excited about a few high-interest titles that are being talked about and passed around the classroom. They have created waiting list for these books and ask me every day if someone else has returned it. I love seeing how excited my students get for books, but it also hurts to not be able to provide enough copies.

My students are looking for multiple copies of their favorite novels so that more reading will happen and encourage students to form books clubs.

For this project, there are four books that students are jumping up and down to read. We would like to obtain more copies of these books and make time for students to create book clubs where they can read together and talk about their thoughts and feelings as they enjoy being a reader.
