Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

District 19 is located in Brooklyn, NY. For the 2022 school year, there are 51 public schools serving 19,387 students in New York City Geographic District #19 School District. This district's average testing ranking is 1/10, which is in the bottom 50% of public schools in New York. Liberty Avenue Middle School placed in the bottom 50% of all schools in New York for overall test scores (math proficiency is bottom 50%,) for the 2018-19 school year. The percentage of students achieving proficiency in math is 34% (which is lower than the New York state average of 54%) for the 2018-19 school year. Minority enrollment is 99% of the student body (majority Hispanic), which is higher than the New York state average of 59% (majority Hispanic and Black).

This project can help provide hands on learning for students who need the visual support.

6th grade math consist of creating number lines, graphs, tape diagrams, converting fractions into decimals and using a variety of charts and tables. The graph paper and white boards will provide a hands on Learning experience.
