My Students

I teach algebra and geometry to ninth and tenth grade students in a small, rural school district. Many students come from lower economic backgrounds and some qualify for free and reduced lunches. Most students are well behaved and parents are supportive of education. Each class has a few students with special needs. People take care of the school and each other.

Providing my students with manipulatives such as geometric peg boards and sticks will help them discover ideas and retain knowledge.

Students will see for themselves how changes to slope, angles and side lengths, affect figures. Building a strong foundation in algebra and geometry will help students be successful in upper-level math and science classes.

My Project

Many students learn best by doing. Please help me give my students the opportunity to learn about lines and angles using manipulatives. Getting up and moving makes math so much better than completing worksheet after worksheet. Personalities come alive, discussions take place, and math comes to life!

Graphing equations of lines and measuring angles will be so much more exciting with pegboards and geometric sticks!

Kids love lessons that allow them to be entertained while developing a deeper understanding of abstract concepts. These clever tools allow teenagers to work together, which allows for an enjoyable lesson. I will be able to use these for both algebra and geometry students for years to come.
