Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important." Bill Gates. In class my students seat in groups and work together on activities and projects. These activities provide one of the best ways to help students to learn.

The school is a vocational-technical training centers, this allows the high school students to attend regular academic classes and technical or vocational training programs during the same school day on the same school campus.

Upon graduation, high school students can receive both a high school diploma and a certificate of completion from the vocational training program in which they participate. The students at our school also have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at the school is 53 percent. The student body makeup is 44 percent male and 56 percent female, the total minority enrollment is 97 percent, and a the total economically disadvantaged enrollment is 73 percent.

My Project

The students are expected to use graphing calculators to perform calculations, such as calculation of means, standard deviations, correlations, lines of best fit, confidence intervals, and run statistical tests. As a result of using graphing calculators, calculations could be done quickly and the students will utilize most of the time for understanding and interpreting what is being calculated.

As the students learn the uses of a graphing calculator, the time spent calculating is reduced and the students can focus on understanding and interpreting what they are calculating.

Since the students are allowed to use a graphing calculator on all the parts of the AP Statistics exam. Having graphing calculators to use in class will make the students to be familiar with its uses by the time they take the exam.
