This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach Chemistry and Physics in a public school with a needy population of students. None of them have their own calculators and they always use the school-provided ones. They need to be familiar with graphing calculators in order to pass their State Exams. Our teachers have many years of experience, but as a state-funded school, that means most of our budget is spent on relatively high teacher salaries. Which doesn't leave much funding for equipment, resources, and technology.

Our students have been using the same graphing calculators for years and they are breaking down, so we need new ones to replace the old ones.

We are teaching them to use spreadsheets and computers for data processing, graphing, and calculating, but graphing calculators are required for their state exams - we use them almost every class and on the vast majority of assignments and tests. They need to become familiar with the equipment they will be using on their state exams. Your generous donation will help bring these resources to our students and they will be used nearly every day.

The Expo markers are not just for the teacher, because we have many whiteboards, including movable whiteboards, in the class. Student routinely use them to collaborate, and illustrate their understanding visually to me and to other students.
