My Students

My students come in everyday grateful to be in an environment that puts a premium on learning. Many of them have come from environments where that isn't always the case.

Many of my students have come from Yemen, where there is a discount put on education and opportunities are limited.

The families with whom I work are extremely humbled that they now live in a place where their children - both boys and girls - can receive an education that will help them to fulfill their dreams. My remaining students have come from low-income families and also realize that the only way to improve upon the living situation for them and their families is to receive an education.

My Project

Our class is in immediate need of 10 graphing calculators to assist our students in taking their New York State Regents exams in Geometry and Algebra. It will also help them prepare for their college entrance exams, such as the SAT. In the classroom, these calculators will help my students to solve geometric and trigonometric problems involving the Pythagorean theorem, sine, cosine and tangent functions of particular shapes (namely triangles) and the size and magnitude of 3D shapes. They will also be able to graph linear and quadratic functions in order to find solutions. Even though I teach Geometry, these calculators can be used across the math curriculum in Algebra and Calculus classes. Not only will they solve geometric problems, they will be able to graph functions, use matrices and track statistics.

Instead of using an assorted collection of antiquated calculators, students will be able to come to school confident that they will have more resources available to make them better students.

This confidence will allow them to follow their dreams and create a better life for themselves and their families. In addition, students can use these calculators on the Regents exams needed to graduate from high school, as well as college-entrance exams such as the SAT.
