Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have disabilities, but they also have capacity! They can learn anything that any other student has the capacity to learn, they just need it to be broken down into really clear steps for them to follow. Often, people are only thinking about what my students can't do, instead of appreciated them for all the skills that they do have.

My students feel safe in my room, because it is a community that respects their individual needs and fights to support them as humans as well as mathematicians.

I am proud to know these students, and I want them to have as many opportunities as non-disabled students do.

My Project

My students learn math in a self-contained, resource, special education environment. When they transition into the general education environment, they don't know how to use the calculators that are handed to them in this setting. In addition, these students are unable to access the calculator for the SAT exam. This is not because they aren't capable of using them, but because we don't have enough to provide access for students in the special education setting.

Equity means all students having access to technology.

This is a great start to making that happen!
