This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyone learns at a different rate...especially mathematics. Those who are learning at an accelerated rate should be given a chance to move ahead.

The last thing 60% of the students in my class need to do is learn math... and yes, I did say need.

My 8th graders are parents for their siblings and many do not have a stable home. Despite all of this, they all want to excel in life and their mathematical careers.

My Project

In my 8th grade math classroom, there are some students that display learning at an accelerated rate. They deserve a chance to grow at their own pace. One way to allow them to do this is to prepare them for the 9th grade state test, which is the Algebra I regents. This test requires a graphing calculator for every student that is taking the test.

Not only will the preparation for this test help them make their math time more meaningful, but it will accelerate their lives since it will help them skip one year of high school math.
