I am a high school math teacher in a high-need and very diverse public school in New York City.

Please help us! For the statewide Regents exams in New York, all students are REQUIRED to have a Texas Instruments graphing calculator. There are some problems on the tests that cannot be solved without one, and yet they are not provided by the education department nor funded at all. This leaves many students in a bind, as graphing calculators are prohibitively expensive for many families, especially in these trying economic times. Thus, there are students who simply cannot do well on the exam because of this.

Math is often a dishearteningly difficult subject for our students, and imagine sitting in class without a necessary tool while most of your classmates have it! Once students have the calculators, they love them. It not only helps learning but also increases their skills in our technologically-driven society, a skill that will prepare them well for college and beyond. And the best part is that the calculators actually help make math fun!

What is needed are generous people like you to help get our students some graphing calculators. And the best part is that your gift will keep on giving. The calculators belong to the school, and the students will borrow them for all their high school years. After they graduate, another student can benefit, and so on.
