Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a magnet secondary high school that focuses on marine and environmental science. Students interested in attending must go through an application process. Once accepted, they are part of a diverse, gifted, and motivating learning environment. Our students work super hard and they love to explore, discover and learn.

Students at our school are eager to learn and get involved in their community.

They jump into a rigorous schedule that includes AP classes and Dual Enrollment classes, to get a better understanding of our world in hope of contributing to their society.

My Project

The best way to learn mathematics is to *do* mathematics. In our Calculus class, some concepts get too difficult and they require a graphing calculator. In an ideal class, all my students have the same calculator so we can help one another learn to use it. I would like to build a class set. A class set of graphing calculators will help the class move along because my students can all use the same calculator, that has the same functions, and be able to practice using it on their own time as well.

Just like one must *do* mathematics to learn mathematics, one must practice using a graphing calculator to learn how it can help their understanding of Calculus.

My goal is to one day have enough calculators for all my students to borrow and practice using so they can be successful on their AP Calculus exam.

I am also requesting an extension cord for my students to easily charge their devices from their seats and also magnets to post flyers and decorations on our glass whiteboards.
