Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students crave knowledge and information at a breakneck pace. They are excited to talk about philosophy when their favorite influencer expounds upon it in their newsfeed, but stop short of picking up Plato or Marx. Today’s graphic adaptations offer a beautiful and important entry for my reluctant readers to engage with the high-minded discourse they have felt excluded from due to insecurity, language barriers, or learning loss.

My classroom book collection serves my entire school community, in the absence of our own dedicated building library.

Help me give them graphic novels that center on stories by and about BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ characters. Help me present them with post-colonial, journalistic examinations of feminism, gender theory, economics, and American history that still doesn't show up in their textbooks.

Please help my students get their hands on contemporary and classic content, at their speed and in their visual language.
