My Project

My second-grade students love to read. Independent reading with books of their own choosing from our classroom library is a favorite time of the day. Our classroom library has grown to include more current and diverse book titles. However, one area of our classroom library that needs continued growth is our graphic novel collection. My goal for this project is to update our classroom library with more graphic novels.

Graphic novels keep students’ attention with their strong images and fast pace.

They guide connections between words and images providing a deeper understanding of the storyline. They support students at various points in their reading development with important skills such as inferencing. A new collection of graphic novels for our classroom library would provide materials to students of different reading abilities and interests and help create positive reading experiences for all students.
