My Students

My students come from a rural area of northern Wisconsin. In fact, our nearest Target is over two hours away! My students live in the north woods, surrounded by wildlife and lakes. Our school is 2k-12th grade and only has a total of around 150 students.

My students have faced many challenges in the last year.

They are very adaptive to new situations and did a great job with E-Learning. From COVID making school online, to having a new teacher and now having to stay in the same classroom for the full day.

My students love to read! My classroom library is a very popular sport in the classroom. I love introducing them to new texts.

My Project

I'm asking for classroom sets of graphic novels. "New Kid" is about a seventh grader who struggles to fit in at his new school. "When Stars are Scattered" is a autobiography about a boy who grew up in a Somali Refugee Camp in Kenya. Both books are beautifully written. I've got a small class so that is why the sets look so small.

I'm also asking for a Teachers Pay Teacher's gift card so I can buy materials that will aid me in teaching graphic novels.

I'm hoping to use "When Stars are Scattered" to teach about graphic novels and then students will read "New Kid" and analyze that as an independent project.

I also want my students to write their own graphic novel. This will combine reading, writing and art.
