My students are English Language Learners who speak Spanish, Bengali, Arabic and Urdu. They are eager to develop as readers and love to read books with visuals and graphics. We are located in Jamaica Queens and this is the second year we exist as a school.

Our students engage in Science, Technology, Art, Engineering and Math on a weekly basis.
My Project
Toon Book graphic books will support my English language learners because they will be able to read with the support of visuals in the graphic novels. The books we currently have are difficult to read and I would like to provide them with options they can read without feeling frustrated and isolated. Language development is another area we focus on in our school for all students. We find that many students struggle with reading because sometimes they are not interested in what they read. Giving students a choice is important as students become literate. Graphic novels are one of the types of text our students enjoy!
