My Students

My students are amazing! They are creative, caring, and fun...and they love to learn! Our school is located in the metro Detroit area and many students reside in low-income, single-parent households. Each and every one of my students are my inspiration to create a loving, safe, and structured classroom environment.

My Project

By adding graphic novels to our 6th grade classroom library, it will pique the interest of many of my students, especially those who are reluctant readers. Graphic novels offer images and keep a fast pace which are important aspects for students who are energetic as well as those who "don't like to read".

Scholastic states it best, "These books improve literacy skills and encourage kids to dive into books for fun — the perfect recipe for a love of reading."

Graphic novels are beneficial for advanced readers as well. The images require students to use images and text to make inferences and synthesize information.

Since graphic novels are beneficial for all types of readers, they would enhance our classroom library options.
