I work with over 76 students in K-5 reading intervention.
Whenever we take on something new, they're always willing to jump in feet first often teaching me to take risks, too. Their love for learning inspires me to grow and learn right alongside them. Without my students, I would not be writing this grant today. Their continued passion makes me want to grow and learn, so I can help them meet their best potential.
My Project
Graphic novels are books, too! Kyle Redford of the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity refers to graphic novels as “the grand equalizers” because they “invite all levels of readers into reading conversations. Since everyone can read graphic novels, everyone can talk about them.”
The items in this grant will give my students access to graphic novels in our classroom.
Since graphic novels are not grade-level specific, the books that you add to our library will be appropriate for readers across grade levels. We will use the items in this grant to create a graphic novel display shelf for all students to access and read. Please help me create a library of authentic reading experiences that incorporate motivating and engaging texts for my K-5 readers.
