My Project
My students are thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn—but like many middle schoolers, they’re also navigating the complexities of growing up. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many face personal and academic challenges that impact their confidence and well-being. I want to create a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported—not just academically, but emotionally.
This project brings powerful, engaging graphic novels to support Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and expose students to underrepresented voices and experiences.
Graphic novels are highly effective for middle school readers, including reluctant ones. The stories I've selected feature characters facing real-life issues—identity, cultural differences, family dynamics, belonging, and emotional growth. These books will not only improve reading engagement but also serve as mirrors and windows for students—mirrors that reflect their own lives, and windows into others’.
These stories reflect a range of experiences and challenges middle schoolers can relate to—whether it’s managing friendships, navigating cultural identity, or building emotional strength through adversity.
These books will bring representation, empathy, and critical SEL conversations it my school. They will help my students feel seen in literature and develop a deeper understanding of others. Through the power of story, we can build stronger readers and more emotionally intelligent humans.
Thank you for considering a donation to this project. You’re helping young people see themselves in the pages they turn and giving them the tools to understand themselves and the world around them. Your support truly makes a lasting impact.
