Graphic novels are something students get excited for. Students gravitate to these highly colorful, illustrated texts. Reluctant readers will be excited to see the shelf full of graphic novels. This project alone would add over eighty titles to this currently limited collection. The graphic novels selected for this project were carefully determined based on other librarians' recommendations, book reviews, and current needs and interests for our school community.
The books for this project include both fiction and non-fiction titles that will reach all ages from first to fourth grade students.
Graphic novels are a great way for those students bridging the gap between picture books to chapter books. Graphic novels will also be reaching some of our reluctant readers. Graphic novels are packed with highly engaging content, and teach essential vocabulary and comprehension skills. The non-fiction books will be exciting as this will be a whole new genre for our library adding books that are both graphic novels and non-fiction! The new "Dog Man" is added to this project for students as well as highly requested titles and series including "Wings of Fire," "Bad Kitty," and "I Survived." These books will bring a love for reading for these elementary students which is so important as they set a strong foundation in the building block of reading that is vital to their future academic success.
