My Project

I work at a Title 1 school. Currently, we have seven Ozobots. The robots are small, so it is most effective to use them with small groups.

By having a greater number of Ozobots, my goal for this project is to allow students to work in smaller groups and increase their hands on experience coding and working with robotics.

The neat thing about Ozobots is they don't require a computer for coding. Students can code the robot by either drawing or using code magnets.

Students in grades 2-6 at my school would code the Ozobots either during their weekly library media resource time, or during our Wednesday STEAM classes.

After they become familiar with the equipment, students will use the code of their choice to meet the challenge. (For example, code your Ozobot to speed up, make at least two turns, slow down and then stop.) Another way I plan to use the Ozobots is to give each student the same pre-existing code, (or path for their Ozobot to follow), and ask them to modify it to meet certain conditions.

The FLDOE Computer Science standards supported by this project include: SC.2.PE.1.1 Construct code segments using tools that do not require a textual programming language, SC.3.PE.1.1 Explore using graphics, blocks or visual cues to design a program and SC.4.PE.1.2 Create a condition that will modify a situation or value in the program.
