Please help us raise awareness and help support our students with autism at GES in grades pre-k through fifth. Our students have different learning styles, and we use different resources to meet their individual needs such as seeing, hearing, and/or touching objects. Learning through play with items such as the Melissa & Doug Fridge Grocery food sets represents real-life objects that will develop daily living skills. Items such as play-doh, magnet tiles, puzzles, Lego & bristle blocks, lacing beads, Spike the Hedgehog game, and alphabet fishing game will help build and strengthen fine motor skills. The Rock N Learn DVDs are fun and engaging. Learning through play with games such as Alphabet and Number Bingo, Magnet Letters, and Animal Counting games can help encourage their imagination while building literacy and numeracy skills. Sight Word Reader Book sets are great for our beginning readers. Games such as A little SPOT of Emotion and Mr. Potato Head Suitcase Set will help our students learn how to express themselves. A sensory activity table would provide hands-on interactive play with water, sand, and STEM play. The sensory fidgets and items that we are requesting help children with autism relax, focus, and/or calm down. It helps them grasp objects with decreased discomfort, helping them play naturally. We are also requesting 2 sets of storage organizers in order to properly store and organize games and activities for our children. As well as using them for “task boxes” to create independence for our students when they are selecting activities to complete. We are also requesting additional chair pockets as it has been very successful for us this school year. It helps our students with organization skills and provides a place to store their personal materials such as pencil boxes and folders.
