Graduation Stoles and Honor Chords for Students!

My Project

The students at our school come from multicultural, multilingual, and multi-socioeconomic backgrounds. Our classrooms include advanced students, second language learners, struggling students, students with special needs, and everything in between. Our diversity is what makes our school as unique as the world language we offer for foreign language credit: American Sign Language (ASL). Our school is the only one in our district that offers ASL and the only one within 30 miles from any other district. Our American Sign Language (ASL) Program is the only one in our district and the only one that reaches the level of ASL 4 Honors in our surrounding county.

Our students need to be rewarded to committing to a four-year program and making it through; they will have the memory of their accomplishments which will motivate them to share their advocacy for the Deaf Community with others.

They will also be able to refer to these rewards as they talk to the younger generation of ASL students who they often mentor and encourage to join the program. It is an accomplishment to make it through the ASL program and reach ASL 4, and one that should be commended and rewarded!

Students who enter the program demonstrate a willingness to step outside of themselves, learning the language, culture, history and literature of deaf individuals. They become advocates of Deaf culture, and many pursue their studies beyond the walls of our high school program. These gifts will motivate them to continue their studies in ASL and Deaf studies.
