Grab That Book!

My students need a bookshelf and display shelf to see books displayed and organized to help them have easy access to high-interest novels. I plan to display informational texts and historical fiction books that pertain to our unit.

My Students

I teach in a small rural school with a surprisingly large diversity in reading skill level. The students in my 4 reading classes are between the ages of 9 and 12 and are full of energy and enthusiasm for learning. They love science and history; anything active and hands on!

The most challenging part of teaching reading is to find time in the school day to just READ.

It is a fact that students who read more, learn more and become proficient readers. My job is to instill in students a love for reading in the hope that they'll become life-long readers.

Since there is a great diversity in reading levels, our classroom needs a wider variety of age-appropriate texts to inspire and encourage the love of reading.

My Project

Since becoming a reading teacher, I have moved into a room that is lacking in a good book display. I am challenging my students to read 10 books per quarter. Having a bookshelf and display shelf will help them be attracted to and spot high-interest books.

Children are attracted to colorful pictures and this triggers a look through to see if they are interested in reading the book.

I can't wait to display some of my favorite books as well as new books that have been donated to our class. I will be organizing books according to genre which will help kids find the type of book they like to read.
