Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have an extraordinary group of girls that have come together to commit learning the game of soccer. On top of a rigorous season schedule, these young women balance school, early-college work, and a range of other personal and family commitments. Out of all sports teams at WHEELS, Girls Varsity Soccer consistently has the highest average GPA by a long shot, always landing around 3.5 or higher. Most are joining competitive sports for the first time, and many have never touched a soccer ball before the first tryout. We teach the fundamentals: fitness, ball control, and basic strategy. But what these student-athletes come away with is much more valuable: an understanding of teamwork, a healthy body, and network of strong women to identify with. While most of our young women may come from lower income backgrounds, they are no doubt the most impressive girls in the city.

My Project

Playing Sports, especially for young women, can be a formative experience for a high school student. Walking though the halls of school, student athletes command respect for all the hard work they put in beyond the classroom.

We’re asking for a starter set of customized WHEELS varsity soccer warm up jackets.

Along with students wearing the jackets to stay warm during our pre-game routine, these jackets can be worn as part of the regular dress code (and I guarantee years thereafter)!

Our customized track jackets will allow our players to feel what it is like to be a varsity student athlete: pride, belonging, and a little swagger!
