Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten students in a Title 1 elementary school. My students are English Learners and come from low-income communities. Despite their language challenges and limited resources, my students are resilient learners who are excited about school. My students enjoy learning through visuals, hands-on activities and meaningful experiences.

My Project

I teach in a Title 1 school and you would think the funding of basic classroom supplies such as markers and colored pencils is not an issue. Reality is, these supplies like many other materials are not supplied to our students. Crayons are supplied twice a year and often my students draw with broken crayons. Glue sticks must be shared between 2 students as the supply is scarce at my school. Every student goes through at least 5-10 pencils a year and the supply is never enough. The lack of foundational classroom supplies is impacting my students learning.

My students need basic classroom supplies to support their learning.

These valuable supplies will be used in my classroom to help students develop fine motor skills, complete their work, meet their learning goals, and succeed in school. Having these supplies for my students will make a difference in enriching their learning, increase their engagement, and creativity in their work. My students will be excited to have their own markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue sticks. They will no longer need to share supplies as they will each have their own. Having their own supplies will make a difference in their self-esteem as they will take pride in producing quality work and ownership of their learning.
