My Students

Is it possible to imagine a dream that is too big to come true? My students want a 3D printer, but think it could never possibly be a reality at our small, urban elementary school. Some think a 3D printer doesn't even exist... Help me prove them wrong!

Our school is a wonderful place filled with bright students.

As with many children, they do not have many opportunities to learn about current events with age appropriate material on their reading level. Approximately 80% of our students are eligible for free or reduced priced meals. Although they may lack the advantages of peers from more affluent settings, they do not lack for energy and enthusiasm! Our school is a small neighborhood school in an urban setting.

My Project

We are trying to build our collection of supplies and technology that students have access to in order to allow them to create the projects that they want to create. A 3D printer and supplies would allow them to use a cutting edge technology, but more importantly, it would allow them to create many of the dream ideas that they have on paper and in computer programs. Simply put, we want our students to have a state of the art 3D printer (yes 3D) to create and print 3 dimensional objects. We believe this technology will inspire our young artists to design and replicate a variety of objects to generate enthusiasm for real life math and literacy applications.

Demographics should not determine destiny.

Children from urban areas can succeed. We know that literacy is the key to that success and these materials will truly unlock the door to reading for so many struggling students.
