My Students

I looped with my "Amazing" 4th students to 5th grade this year. They will still continue to be "Amazing" as 5th graders!! However, "AMAZING" only goes so far when funding is low and resources are limited. If we are trying to keep up with 21st century learning, my students need iPad Air 2s to support them academically while they continue to be "AMAZING"!

My students attend school in an urban school district located in South Central Los Angeles.

I want my 5th grade students to continue come to school everyday anticipating learning new and exciting information. They are kind, hardworking, and have persevered through many of the situations they live through on a daily basis. Unfortunately, poverty in our area is a constant issue that we face. Currently, more than 80 percent of the students attending our school qualify for a free or reduced lunch.

My amazing students are always eager to learn new things, intrigued by technology and the wealth the information they can obtain from it, and most importantly, a variety of apps.

My Project

With Common Core, it is critical that students engage in a variety of activities that challenge and extend their thinking. Currently, my class of 27 students has only access to 5 iPad Minis. Two additional iPads will provide students access to creating virtual Science Journals, developing Coding Skills. These iPads will also assist students in researching interest-based topics and learning how to create multimedia presentations to advance and memorialize their learning.

As the students continue to work and become more familiar with the iPads, my students will be able to work in small groups to design digital stories they can share with the class.

This will greatly enhance their reading and writing skills. They will also be able to create a collection of their own narratives within genres of literary and informational works (including poetry and raps), as well as post them online. It will also be easier for my students to write to their pen-pals in Spain. One of our main focuses this year is on Science and discovering Earth, our Water Planet as a living entity. Student will complete a Science project based on this particular theme and share their experiments and discoveries using the iPads to create a virtual science journal for our Science Fair.

Lastly, access to iPads will allow my students to develop other technological skills as they learn how to use Powerpoint, iMovie, Movie Trailers, and other video apps
