My Students

Imagine a class where students can instantly research their questions or manipulate science simulations in small groups. Imagine lab groups that can record data in real time. Imagine a classroom where all students, regardless of ability, can achieve at their personal best. We can make that reality.

I have almost 200 Physical Science students with a thirst for knowledge.

They are a very diverse group of young teenagers, with varied interests, backgrounds, ethnicity, aspirations, hopes and dreams. They are amazing with boundless curiosity and wonder of the world around them. They constantly amaze me with their creativity and love of learning. We have students of all levels- from advanced to far below basic in English/Language Arts and Math. I want to make sure that they are all proficient in Science!

My Project

With a set of Chromebooks in the classroom, my students will be able to use Go!Motion motion detectors to learn about graphing speed and acceleration or watch real time graphing of temperature changes in chemical reactions. They will be able to access chemistry, physics and astronomy simulations to discover how changes in pressure can affect volume or temperature, observe changes of state at the molecular level, or visualize the orbit of the moon around the earth to see the phases of the moon. These amazing students will be able to access the Internet to research elements, compounds, forces of gravity and the birth of stars. They can watch videos like that of Felix Baumgartner falling through the atmosphere on his record-breaking jump, Skype with students at other schools to share information, or become pen-pals with physical science students from other countries, expanding their learning environment and their world view. The possibilities are endless.

Access to computers will help improve typing and research skills, increase opportunities for engagement and learning and will develop their 21st century skills of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. As we move towards implementation the Common Core State Standards, we want to be at the forefront, a standard bearer for rigorous curriculum, high expectations and even higher achievement.
