My Students

Help us preserve our eyes and eye-deas! My students are in need of goggles for in-class hands-on investigations and a classroom printer for extracting electronic information for projects that enhance and/or display their science literacy.

I am a proud teacher of one-hundred 7th grade science students!

My hardworking scientists come from a diverse, high-need community in New York. Over 40% of our school's population are English language learners and special education students and 97% of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite the obstacles and lack of resources in their lives outside of school, my students are always eager to learn and make the most of every experience in the classroom. My English language learners and special education students often struggle to learn and express themselves with words. Therefore, we have developed a strong appreciation for learning through visuals and hands-on investigations to support their science literacy. I have discovered that my students display (and develop) the most confidence when given the opportunity to learn by seeing and doing, in close collaboration with reading and writing.

My Project

I have witnessed major success in my classroom when my students are given the opportunity to learn with their own eyes and hands. When my students are able to transcend their language barriers and disabilities, they show a personal engagement with the content that will cultivate a long-term interest in both science and learning. My students would greatly benefit from a class set of goggles and a classroom printer; these materials would help create the safe, fun, and student-centered learning environment conducive to their unique styles of learning during both labs and projects. Through these resources, my students will not only recognize the importance of lab safety and general safety in and outside of schools, but they will also have the freedom to extract further resources from computer software programs and online resources to enhance their science reading and writing.

Your generosity will secure my students with the tools they need to be successful in scientific inquiry and exploration.

Furthermore, your generosity will help my students discover and pursue their personal strengths in order to achieve a sustainable passion for learning. My students and I sincerely thank you for your consideration!
