My Students

My students are creative, hilarious, and endearingly hopeful children who love to learn. Their eager faces greet me everyday, ready to learn. They are English as a Second Language learners who do not hear the English language beyond our school. Their parents do not have the language skills to ask them questions about their learning or reinforce lessons learned in school. I am teaching Special Education in addition to my English as a Second Language population. In order to truly differentiate my teaching and address all the needs of my students, I want to reach the wide range of interests. My students are eager and curious children who enjoy learning. I teach at a Title 1 school, meaning that nearly all of my students live below the nation-wide poverty line. Beyond the classroom, my students rarely interact with English. These new resources would excite the students' naturally inquisitive minds and motivate them to explore topics beyond my explicit teachings.

My Project

My students are curious learners who are eager to learn each and everyday. The students are inquisitive, but truly unaware how to satisfy their curiosities through reading and research. The research process requires access to non-fiction resources and in different reading levels, depending on their inquiries.

We need 2 Google Chromebooks to set up a research center so students can access websites, articles, and e-books that will answer their questions and generate new thinking.

Due to the size of our special education classroom, students rarely have access to technology to simply explore their inquiries in a safe and intellectually meaningful way. We only have Computer class once a week where students each have a desktop of their own on which to work.

With the addition of these 2 resources, it is my hope that students can have regular access to materials that invigorate their excitement for learning. With proper access to material, students will develop their English as well as their technological skills.
